Dryer Vent Wizard Owners Link Customer Appreciation to Job Satisfaction

CONCORD, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 22, 2016) - Twenty years ago when Paul Cushing and his wife Veronica were raising their three young children, they recalled the many loads of laundry the family went through.

"It seems like we were a family of 10, because it took multiple cycles to dry each load," said Veronica, whose husband investigated and fixed the problem by cleaning the dryer vents. "It made a huge difference."

With their children now adults and the couple seeking a new business opportunity, it was partly that memory that attracted Cushing and his wife to become Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW) owners in Contra Costa, the family's longtime community.

DVW is a fast-growing North American franchise that specializes in dryer vent repair, replacement, alteration, cleaning and maintenance for residential and commercial clients.

They launched their business this summer to service all of Contra Costa County, including Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Concord, Danville, Orinda, Pinole, San Ramon, and other communities.

Paul, a former computer programmer, uses his handyman skills and attention to detail to tackle a variety of jobs -- from dryer vent cleaning to tackling more involved installations through tight crawl spaces.

When asked if they have encountered any surprises since they started the business, both quickly reveal how they never imagined how much appreciation they would receive from the customers they serve.

"Customers can see the difference immediately in the performance of their dryers," said Paul, whose wife joins him on the service calls. "People also seem to feel more comfortable working with a couple."

They fondly recall helping an 88 year old woman who had two dryers on different levels of her house. After Paul rerouted the dryer that she regularly uses, she insisted that they come back to clean and reroute the vent for the second dryer, which is occasionally used by visiting family members.

"We never dreamed of all the wonderful relationships that we would have in this business -- with our customers and with other franchisees who are always ready to step up to help," added Paul, who doesn't miss his job as a computer programmer.

He and his wife spend considerable time helping to educate customers and others about the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance for energy savings and fire prevention.

In the U.S., it is estimated that poorly maintained or clogged dryer vents are the leading cause of appliance fires, resulting in more than 15,500 dryer fires every year. These are only the reported cases.

"This job is satisfying for both of us, because we're helping keep families safe in our community," added Veronica.

Headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Dryer Vent Wizard is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). DVW's 70 plus franchisees serve more than 9,000 communities throughout the U.S. and Canada.
