DSM becomes innovation partner of Dutch 470 sailors

HEERLEN, NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - December 4, 2007) -

DSM will become the official sponsor of the Netherlands' best two sailing teams in the 470 class. In the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, DSM is supporting world title holders Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout and the silver medal winners of the 2007 World Championships in Portugal, Sven and Kalle Coster. Both teams will be major medal contenders at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

These top-level sailing teams are joining DSM's Unlimited Sports Team. DSM is already innovation partner of the Dutch men's volleyball team, pole vaulter Rens Blom and Paralympics wheelchair tennis player Sharon Walraven.

Jan Zuidam, deputy chairman of DSM's Managing Board and chairman of DSM's Olympic Steering Committee, gave the following comment: "The Dutch 470 sailing teams consist of ambitious and successful sportsmen and women who are currently preparing themselves for the Beijing Olympics of 2008. They are a fine addition to the Unlimited.DSM Sports Team. Through our innovations in the fields of nutrition and materials we will work closely together with them on their way to success."

Innovative partner in Sport

DSM and the Dutch Olympic Committee/Dutch Sports Federation (NOC*NSF) have been 'Partners in Sport' since 2001. As an innovation partner, DSM develops new products in the fields of nutrition and materials exclusively for the Dutch Olympic team. The two Dutch 470 yachting teams will also be able to benefit from DSM's knowledge and know-how.

"In top-level sports, there is a thin line between victory and defeat. Support from the right sponsor can tip the scales in an athlete's favor. I am certain that DSM can help us a great deal on our way to Beijing," commented Marcelien de Koning from Australia, where, together with Lobke Berkhout and the Coster brothers, she is currently training for the World Championships in the 470 class that will be held in Melbourne in January.

In March 2008, during DSM's Olympic Update at the HISWA boat fair in Amsterdam (Netherlands), DSM will give further details about the way in which it will give shape to the sponsorship.

DSM and sport

Sport is about performing at a top level, day in, day out. About passion, ambition, wanting to be the best, about continuous improvement and teamwork. As such, sport embodies a number of DSM's core values. Just like sports people DSM is continuously pushing its limits: Unlimited.DSM. Innovation is one of the main spearheads of DSM's strategic course, and it is equally important in the world of sports: innovations in the fields of nutrition and materials can mean the difference between victory and defeat. Innovation is our Sport™ is therefore an apt title for DSM's program in the field of sports.

DSM and the Dutch Olympic Committee/Dutch Sports Federation (NOC*NSF) have been 'Partners in Sport' since 2001. In the run-up to Beijing 2008, DSM has stepped up its efforts in the field of sports and innovation even further in the hope of making a major contribution to the success of the Dutch Olympic team during the 2008 Summer Games.
