Ducks Unlimited Canada Applauds Commitment to Conservation in Federal Budget

STONEWALL, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - March 22, 2013) - Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is encouraged by the proactive steps the Government of Canada is making in the important conservation of wetlands and associated habitat for the benefit of fish and wildlife including waterfowl, as well as for the enjoyment of all Canadians today and tomorrow.

In particular, DUC welcomes federal budget support for the management of critical fisheries habitat in our oceans, lakes and waterways, the interim funds earmarked to support the continuation of the Natural Areas Conservation Program, a commitment to a National Conservation Plan to be announced in the near future, as well as a donor credit for first-time claimants of the Charitable Donations Tax Credit to encourage donations to charities like DUC.

"Ducks Unlimited Canada commends the commitment of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Environment Canada Minister Peter Kent and Minister Keith Ashfield of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in the protection of Canada's natural areas including wetlands and fisheries habitat," says Greg Siekaniec, CEO of DUC. "We look forward to working with our government partners, landowners, conservation organizations and other agencies on projects that will protect against invasive species, conserve ecologically sensitive land, and greatly improve the quality of critical fish passages and habitat, such as our Great Lakes and oceans."

DUC continues to support the need for a national conservation plan, and continued investment in conservation programs, and looks forward to the opportunity to work with all levels of government and other partners to ensure Canada's natural areas are protected for generations to enjoy.

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, industry, other non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. Learn more at
