During Fire Safety Month in October: Get Home Heating or Air Conditioner Tune-Ups

Service Experts Across U.S. to Provide Free Tune-Ups and Promote Home Safety; In Recognition of Fire Safety Month, Service Experts Is Providing Several Tune-Ups and Carbon Monoxide Detectors to Needy Senior Citizens in Nine U.S. Communities as Selected by Local Human Services Agencies

RICHARDSON, TX--(Marketwire - October 1, 2010) -  Service Experts, North America's heating and cooling repair and maintenance leader, is encouraging consumers to recognize Fire Safety Month and make the time to ensure their home system is running safely and at top efficiency. In the U.S. and Canada, October marks Fire Safety Month while Fire Prevention Week is October 3-9.

Service Experts' 110 Centers in North America are on a mission this October to serve the public by tying its expertise with home heating and cooling system service to formally now include home fire safety education.

More than 3,500 people die each year in residential fires according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA reports that about half of those fire deaths are children or senior citizens (ages 65 or older). To avoid such tragedy and to assist families with critical preparation and prevention steps, Service Experts is implementing the campaign, including providing consumers with a free downloadable home safety kit that is available at http://www.serviceexperts.com/specialoffers.

A major home safety precaution for furnace and air conditioning systems that homeowners can take is to have a professional conduct a safety check and tune-up.

"Twice a year checks of a home ventilating system provide significant peace of mind for homeowners where fire prevention is concerned," says Ian McKeen, Vice President of Marketing for Service Experts. "We encourage homeowners to develop the habit of having their system checked so problems can be identified before permanent system damage or fire can take place. Carbon monoxide leaks from gas appliances are a silent killer but often one of the dangers that homeowners are least aware of. We are encouraging our Centers in both the U.S. and Canada to work with their local fire departments to educate and engage the public on this issue."

To encourage heating and cooling system check-ups, consumers who schedule a Precision™Tune-Up with participating centers during October will receive special Fire Safety Month pricing and also receive a free carbon monoxide detector.

"We want consumers to know that Service Experts is committed to both service and safety," adds McKeen. "Fire Safety Month in October is the perfect time to remind homeowners that good home comfort system maintenance is a key to protection."

In addition to the home safety kit, Service Experts is offering a free safety tip every day during October on Facebook and Twitter.
