Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works & Water Selects Infoblox Network Appliances

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS and SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 13, 2006 -- Infoblox Inc., a developer of essential infrastructure for identity-driven networks (IDNs), today announced that the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works & Water (Dutch Ministerie van Verkeer & Waterstaat), which is responsible for mobility policy in the Netherlands and for protection against floods, has selected and deployed Infoblox network appliances to improve the reliability and reduce the management complexity of its network identity infrastructure.

The Ministry relies heavily on its network infrastructure to perform its mission-critical tasks of managing all traffic via roads, waterways, railways, and air, as well as water maintenance, ensuring clean water in the rivers, lakes and the sea, preventing falling water tables, and protecting against high water levels.

"With a charter of protecting the Netherlands against the negative influences of water and providing it with safe, world-class connections, the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management requires a network that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Domain name and IP address management services are critical to maintaining that availability," said Gunnar Vlugt, network engineer with the Ministry. "Infoblox appliances provide the reliability, scalability and security that allow us to deliver those services and maintain that network availability without requiring an abundance of IT resources."

The Ministry previously relied on Windows software deployed on general-purpose servers to provide domain name system (DNS) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) based services, but found that significant time was required to manage the servers and software. In addition, Ministry IT representatives were concerned about overall solution reliability and the potential security vulnerabilities inherent in using a general-purpose system to host critical network services.

To address these issues, the Ministry selected and deployed an Infoblox appliance-based solution that provides the essential foundation for IDNs by delivering reliable, scalable, and secure network identity services including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS (authentication, authorization and accounting) and IPAM (IP address management).

Six Infoblox appliances with the DNSone package are deployed at the Ministry headquarters to deliver internal and external DNS services. Additionally, the Ministry has deployed the Infoblox Keystone upgrade that links a group of distributed appliances into a unified, resilient ID grid to provide network identity services with unprecedented performance and scalability, as well as system-wide management and availability.

Powerful features of the unified grid management, such as one-button, system-wide software upgrades, lower operational costs and improve system uptime. And, with built-in IPAM, the Keystone upgrade provides essential reporting and enterprise-wide control over IP address utilization without the need for separate hardware or software. This enables organizations of all sizes, like the Dutch Ministry of Transport, to implement IDNs that are reliable, secure, and cost-effective.
