e-HLbc Receives BCLA Merit Award

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 25, 2008) - The Electronic Health Library of British Columbia (e-HLbc) has been honoured with a British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) Merit Award. The e-HLbc initiative, the first of its kind in Canada, is a province-wide e-resource license open to all publicly funded post-secondary institutions, all health authorities and all health professionals.

"This is great recognition for e-HLbc champions and collaborators who have contributed to its establishment and implementation," said George Eisler, CEO of the BC Academic Health Council.

BCLA Merit Awards for Programs and Services (2007-2008), were handed out Friday, April 18, 2008 at the BC Library Conference. Nominees were evaluated on the basis of overall program excellence, value of goals and services offered, ability to meet the needs of target audiences and communities and innovation and originality.

e-HLbc was launched in April 2006 as an initiative of the BC Academic Health Council and provides BC's academic and healthcare communities with easy access to online health library resources. As a key component of knowledge management for healthcare and healthcare provider education in B.C., the purpose of e-HLbc is to support and improve practice, education and research in the health sciences. Additionally, e-HLbc helps rural and remote regions recruit and retain health professionals by ensuring that access to the same trusted resources is available all over the province.
