E-World Online Finds Solution to "Ghost Weight" Reporting by E-Waste Recyclers

Leading Electronics Take-Back Program Validates Weight Reporting and Responsible Recycling

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Sep 11, 2013) - E-World Online, the nation's leading provider of comprehensive e-waste take-back programs, announced that it will launch a new virtual auditing system to address industry concerns of recyclers claiming "ghost weight" to meet the EPR needs of original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The virtual auditing will proactively ensure accurate weight reporting by recyclers in addition to confirming their compliance in meeting R2 or e-Stewards standards. As part of the national Manufacturer Interstate Take-back System (MITS), this new feature will amplify current auditing procedures to provide OEM clients the industry's highest level of assurance that material weight claimed to meet their EPR requirements was unquestionably collected, processed and reported accurately and to the highest level of environmental and safety standards.

Speculation of "ghost weight" reporting, the unethical claiming of non-existent e-waste weight or reporting the same material weight more than once to different OEM programs, is on the rise. Rather than waiting for legislation to address the issue, E-World Online pioneered this innovative feature as part of their leading national take-back program, MITS, to ensure OEMs are not concerned about paying for e-waste that does not exist. Through this feature, E-World is setting a new bar for the level of responsible recycling needed to move the industry forward.

"All of the recyclers within MITS are required to achieve R2 or e-Stewards certification and we pride ourselves on a sterling environmental compliance record," said Steve Neu, vice president of E-World Online. "But outside recyclers reporting 'ghost weight' are the bad apples that spoil the bunch, causing concern amongst product stewards, legislators and OEMs. Through our virtual auditing system we further demonstrate to OEM clients that we're operating to the highest levels of accountability so that they can focus on innovation and not administration. Hopefully, we'll lead the way to a new standard."

E-World Online will utilize advanced video conferencing and screen sharing technologies to conduct virtual audits that are as effective as physical efforts, but with supremely streamlined logistical needs. Additionally, E-World Online's proprietary e-MRG software suite will allow for expedited record sharing and evaluation. Virtual auditing and verification will not increase costs associated with MITS.
