Eagle Presents Scholarships to Algonquin Technology Students

IT Staffing Company Supports IT Education at Algonquin for Eighth Year

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 19, 2006) - Eagle is pleased to announce this year's recipients of the Algonquin College Eagle Scholarship Awards.

The Algonquin College Awards Ceremony took place last evening, October 18th at 5:00 p.m. at the Algonquin College Woodroffe Campus in Ottawa. Eagle's Vice-President of Eastern Canada, David O'Brien, was in attendance to present this year's recipients with their awards. A total of four exceptional students from Algonquin College's School of Advanced Technology were honoured in this ceremony and were each presented with a scholarship of $500. Award recipients include: Ross Guiller, Sorlie Cameron, Kim Eun Young and Soundararajan Anooradah. The selection criterion for these awards was based on academic merit and community involvement.

"This exceptional group of students has demonstrated an impressive level of personal commitment and it is an honour to recognize them for this outstanding achievement," said David O'Brien, Eagle's Vice-President of Eastern Canada. "The IT industry continues to see a decline in available IT talent and Eagle's support of technology programs across the country demonstrates our ongoing commitment to attracting and engaging the next generation of technology talent."

"We are very pleased to be part of Eagle's Scholarship Program. Such support and recognition encourages young people to pursue an education in IT, thereby helping to close the skills gap in the industry," said Claude Brule, Academic Chair of the Computer Studies Department at Algonquin College.

Eagle established the Eagle Scholarship Program eight (8) years ago in an effort to support education and fight the skills gap within the Information Technology (IT) industry. Eagle grants a total of fourteen $500 scholarships annually to students in technology programs in colleges in Ottawa, Calgary and Toronto which represents a total annual investment of $7,000. Awards are available to students attending Algonquin College, SAIT and George Brown College.
