Eagle's Trace in Houston Launches New Continuing Care Neighborhood

Project Meets Regional Demand for Senior Living That Incorporates Person-Centered Health Care Services

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - Jun 12, 2013) - Eagle's Trace, the Erickson Living retirement community, expanded the broad scope of services offered to residents and guests with the opening of its state-of-the-art continuing care neighborhood.

Held on June 11th, the ribbon-cutting ceremony included residents, company officials, health care providers and other special guests from the Houston area.

Meeting the demand in the Houston market for senior living with high quality health care services, the 80,000 square-foot, one story neighborhood features 112 spacious suites/residences, including assisted living, memory care, post-acute rehabilitation and nursing care services for residents and guests.

The design incorporates spacious common areas, in-room dining options, screened-in porches and gardens into daily activities.

The new neighborhood incorporates the integrated health care model created by Erickson Living, the manager and developer of Eagle's Trace. Full-time physicians, electronic medical records and specialized training for employees have resulted in geriatric health care metrics that exceed national averages across the Erickson enterprise.

For Erickson Living residents, the hospital readmission rate within 30 days is just 10 percent compared with the national average of 20 percent, and appointment time with on-site physicians is double the national standard.

For Ben Cornthwaite, Executive Director of Eagle's Trace, the new continuing care neighborhood is a natural evolution in the community's ability to provide customized services with a holistic focus.

"This neighborhood is unique not only because of the heart and passion of staff committed to providing exemplary customer service, but also based on the progressive care model that affords residents independence and choice in all aspects of their daily life," described Mr. Cornthwaite.

The project is a major job creator in Houston as 120 employees will be hired. Led by Phil Shockley, Associate Executive Director & Administrator of Extended Care, the positions range from health care professionals (nurses and certified nurse's aides) to concierge, programming, maintenance and food service employees. Eagle's Trace currently employs 305 people.

During the ceremony, Cody Hunter, Director of Business Development and Patient Satisfaction at Methodist West Hospital, provided the keynote address. He highlighted the value of the person-centered approach to care at Eagle's Trace and the importance of community partnerships in delivering quality health services to seniors in the Houston region.

Representatives of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce presented official recognition from the business community.

The 70-acre campus of Eagle's Trace is located at 14703 Eagle Vista Drive in West Houston. In its independent living neighborhood, the Erickson Living community has 461 apartment homes in a variety of floor plans and pricing options at an occupancy rate of 97 percent.
