Early Season Success For Team Wiggle Athletes

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - June 16, 2011) - The 2011 season has already been a hugely successful one for Wiggle bike shop athletes, seeing them on podia around the world in triathlon, road bike and mountain biking. Wiggle, the UK's leading bike and triathlon retailer, sponsors a number of athletes who range from elite mountain bike riders through to age group triathletes and up-and-coming downhill riders.

Team Wiggle mountain bike rider Matt Page achieved his early season goal by defending his UK 24 hour Solo Championship title at the 24 Hours of Exposure race. This event also incorporated the European Championships, so Matt's victory earned him the European crown too.

Fellow Wiggle mountain biker Lee Williams has been no stranger to success either, taking his fifth consecutive win at the Welsh Mountain Bike Championships. He is now in the thick of World Cup racing and has his eyes firmly set on a Team GB spot for next year's Olympic Games.

In triathlon, Ironman 70.3 pro racer Emma-Kate Lidbury has had a cracking season so far, taking her first 70.3 title in Majorca in May. This followed a win at TriStar Nevis 111 and a top 10 finish at the Abu Dhabi International earlier in the year. Emma-Kate is in action again this Sunday at Ironman 70.3 UK in Wimbleball, Exmoor.

Also on top form is age group triathlete Carolyn Hewett who won her age group at both the Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon, held at Dorney Lake, and the Blenheim Triathlon. She also finished second in her category at Windsor Triathlon last Sunday.

Road rider Ben Simmons ensured the Team Wiggle colours were first across the line at the Wiggle Dragon Ride. Ben posted the fastest time for the 200km sportive, which starts and finishes in Pencoed, South Wales. He also showed great form at the Welsh Road Race Championships in May, racing well to finish seventh. He is now gearing up for his next major race, the National Circuit Race Championships at the end of July.

Youngster Finn Tennant is a newcomer to Team Wiggle this year and already the talented downhill rider is showing great promise. He achieved a top 20 finish in his first national championship event and has plenty more events lined up for the 2011 season.

Martin Talbot, Wiggle's director of marketing, said: "We are delighted to see our Team Wiggle athletes performing so well. We are proud to support these athletes in their respective sports and appreciate how much hard work, discipline and passion goes into achieving these results."
