Earth and Space Science Curriculum Offered Through American College of Education

CEU Certification or Graduate Level Credit Available

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - May 4, 2011) - The American College of Education announces its new Earth and Space and Science course offered June 6 and July 18. The 5-week course enables teachers to teach the new 12th grade science course. The program is designed to help students make connections among earth, ocean, atmosphere and space science and is offered for either CEU or graduate credit. The online material is supported with a lab textbook for additional support and included in the tuition price.

Rebecca Dodge, Ph.D. provided the material and designed it specifically around the skill standards required by Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Dodge is a certified petroleum geologist and a licensed professional geoscientist. She is an associate professor in the Department of Geosciences at Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Texas.

American College of Education is working with the distinguished Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute ( at Brookhaven College (Dallas) that worked with Dodge to develop this curriculum. The institute offers continuing education to professional geoscientists and promotes earth systems education for children by personal interaction with geophysicists and exposure to career opportunities.

Geoscientist Lewis S. "Stan" Pittman, who is affiliated with Miles said, "Our mission is to help Texas educators develop the skills needed to teach earth and space science as a course that meets the required fourth year of science for the preferred and distinguished track. To accomplish this we're partnering with American College of Education to provide an online professional development course that is accessible to science teachers throughout Texas."

Tuition for non-graduate credit professional development is $440 (25 CEUs and lab book included). Tuition for graduate credit is $645 (4 QH graduate credit hours and lab book included).
