Earth Hour Turns Into Fun Hour at Airport Hotel's Heathrow Celebration

London Heathrow Marriott Joins Global Awareness Campaign

LONDON--(Marketwired - Apr 19, 2013) - Joining in the effort of uniting people to protect the planet and raising awareness of climate change made for a colourful hour long event inside one of the premier hotels near Heathrow.

Turning Earth Hour into Fun Hour the London Heathrow Marriott put on an awesome illuminated dance show in celebration of the World Wildlife Fund's annual Earth Hour, Saturday, March 23. The extravaganza started at 8:30 p.m. when all lights were turned off in the lobby of these 4-star London accommodations and energetic hotel staff emerged adorned in multi-coloured glow lights, brightening up the darkness as they danced with over 150 hotel guests. For 20 minutes the lobby was transformed into a huge dance floor, with some dancers taking their places high above the crowd on the tiered windowed façade of the hotel, to display a fantastic array of glowing colours.

Earth Hour is a simple idea that has quickly turned into a global phenomenon bringing hundreds of millions of people from community, business and government across the world together by switching off the lights for an hour in a show of support for environmental action. In drawing guests of these impeccable accommodations near London into the hotel lobby, Marriott staff presented the official Earth Hour 2013 video on the ceiling of the 20-metre high lobby before the celebration began. The short presentation focused on the importance of joining in the Earth Hour event and becoming part of a global community that takes action toward a more sustainable future. Every year hotels in the Marriott London Business Council, of which the London Heathrow Marriott is a member, support Earth Hour and this year staff of the London Heathrow airport hotel opted to make a real event of the darkness and put on a spectacular show for the guests, while delivering an important message that reflects the hotel's concern for a brighter future.

"The hotel has supported Earth Hour for many years by turning off the lights in all public areas for an hour and asking our guests to do the same in the bedrooms," said General Manager Ron Vos during the event. "This year we wanted to do something more to highlight our commitment to this fantastic movement, so we decided to build awareness of climate change to as many people as we could with a little bit of fun. As a hotel and an organisation we are passionate about our environmental activities and tonight is just one example of our commitment."
