Eating Disorder Recovery Support to Launch First Collaborative Fundraising Event

EDRS Is Proud to Host Its First Fundraising Outreach Event to Help Bring Education and Awareness of Eating Disorders to the Community

SAN RAFAEL, CA--(Marketwired - October 06, 2015) - Eating Disorder Recovery Support, Inc., a long-standing, community-based organization for advocacy in eating disorders, will host "Working Together for Recovery and Prevention," the first event of its kind to bring awareness, collaboration, and professional and community education of eating disorders to the Bay Area. The event will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael.

"We are thrilled about the new opportunities EDRS will bring to Bay Area residents," said EDRS Acting-President Haleh Kashani, PhD. "Our objective for this event is to increase community awareness of eating disorders, resources, and the treatment team process, as well as foster professional collaboration."

The event will feature keynote speaker Anita Johnston, PhD., author of Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationships with Food Through Myth, Metaphor, and Storytelling and Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Ai Pono eating disorder treatment programs in Hawaii. Additionally, the event will host a professional networking lunch, a collaboration circle, a silent auction, and a discussion on collaboration in eating disorders treatment by a multidisciplinary panel of renown experts in the Bay Area, moderated by Ovidio Bermudez, MD, the Chief Clinical Officer and Medical Director of Child & Adolescent Services at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado.

As of 2015, an estimated 30 million people of all ages struggle with an eating disorder of some form. Only 35% of those diagnosed receive adequate treatment at a specialized facility.(1) Eating disorders can easily go undetected, resulting in serious medical conditions, and in some cases, death.

"EDRS strives to collaborate with the public on a local level by transitioning outreach events from large-scale conferences to smaller, community-focused gatherings," said Kashani. "We exist to better address the needs of our local and regional communities, to create a support system for individuals and families on their path to healing and recovery, and to offer a space for professional education and collaboration."

Event registration can be purchased on EDRS' homepage. For live updates, please visit their Facebook page.
