BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Dec 4, 2013) - Echo360, the global leader in active and distance learning solutions, today announced that Ruhr University Bochum is using its technology to help students manage double credit course schedules. The University has engaged in a three-year contract that provides active learning technology in 14 classrooms, making it one of the largest installations of capture technology in Germany.
German bachelor's degree programs are designed for students to matriculate in three years. Using the video created with Echo360 is one way students can stay on track to graduate. Many students have full course load and enroll in multiple compulsory courses scheduled at conflicting times. Students can attend one face-to-face seminar while attending the other one virtually with Echo360. They simply watch on a computer or other device when and where it is convenient for them.
"Many students at Ruhr University Bochum are earning a degree while working and taking care of their family," said Holger Hansen, Head of the eLearning Department at Ruhr University Bochum. "Echo360 gives them the freedom and flexibility they need to graduate on time and balance their busy schedules through online access to their courses."
The University also selected Echo360 because of the benefits it affords instructors and technologists using the solution. Previous tools were complicated and, because of low adoption, required the instructor to pay for use of the technology. Echo360 captures course visuals and video of the instructor without any technical or financial burden on the professor. They teach with their own laptops, and Echo360 automatically captures it without any interruption. Technology staff have seen a significant reduction in the time to create course video while increasing the services offered to their instructors and students.
Ruhr University Bochum uses both Echo360 hardware and software in its deployment. SafeCapture HD, the Echo360 robust and automated hardware appliance, is available in classrooms on campus. Select instructors can use personal capture software to augment classroom recordings.
"Ruhr University Bochum is on the leading edge of blending a high-quality, face-to-face education with flexible online access," said Fred Singer, CEO of Echo360. "Echo360 is a sustainable way to easily add video to all courses and give students the resources they need to complete their degree in a timely manner."
The announcement was made at the Online Educa Berlin starting today at the Hotel Intercontinental Berlin. Tradeshow attendees can learn more by visiting Echo360 in stand B59 at the event.
More than two million students in 7,000 classrooms at 650 institutions across 30 countries rely on Echo360 technology to enhance their educational experience. Echo360 digitally records and shares instructional content live and on demand, allowing institutions to reach more students while lowering costs. Through Echo360, students engage with their peers through collaborative tools and review information from instructors online, at their convenience and across various devices. The company has been recognized with a Product Line Strategy of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan, is CSIA-certified for outstanding customer service, and was named a Visionary Vendor in Educational Technology by IT research firm Basex.
