echoecho mobile ltd.: Location Privacy Concerns Drive Growth in echoecho

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2010) - echoecho mobile ltd. -

A funny thing happened when Facebook announced its long awaited location sharing functionality Places last week – people started downloading echoecho version 1.7. It may have been that the autoReply functionality in the new echoecho release met the needs of thousands of users. Or, it might be that people still care about privacy and want control over who can tell the world where they live, where they go to school, where they go out to eat – at least within their larger social network.

"Sharing location makes the virtual world real. And it's this reality that creates concerns about location over-sharing," states Nick Bicanic, CEO of echoecho mobile, "Facebook Places promises your location will be known to all of your friends in an instant but fails to address any of the security concerns that come with that responsibility."

echoecho allows people to ask and answer the question "Where are you?" with one click. That's it. No over-sharing. No tracking. No stalking. No battery drain. Just simple, fast, useful and secure location sharing.

"We noticed a ten fold increase in downloads of our location-sharing software last week," continues Bicanic. "While I think the 1.7 release is great, there are clearly some other factors at work here."

Version 1.7 of echoecho is immediately available on Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian, and Windows Mobile. Aside from improved location accuracy, the main request of users had been for an autoReply function that would allow them to share locations with their closest friends and family without taking their phone out of their pocket.

"If somebody wants to know where I am, they echo me. If I want to tell them, I click Reply. If I don't, I just ignore it." says Arben Kryeziu – CEO of technology startup Bump Networks, "The new autoReply feature makes it even easier to stay in touch with my wife when I am in meetings or driving. And I can quickly turn it on and off for anyone else in my address book."
