Eclectic SoCal Art Show Brings Attention to the Women of Skimboarding

"Photographe Skimtastique" Looks to Raise Money in Hopes of Elevating and Legitimizing Female Skimboarding

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - SkimChicks, a grassroots community organization dedicated to elevating and legitimizing female skimboarding, is hosting a series of art shows in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas throughout the rest of 2011. "Photographe Skimtastique," is an art show combining photography, prints, oil on canvas, and athletes in costume and body art, all inspired by the women of skimboarding. The premiere show will be held on Friday, June 3 at Angels on Abbot Kinney gallery in Venice Beach, Calif.

Each event will showcase the body paintings of Lanakila Kelliher of Lanakila Creations, combined with the photography of Monique Feil. Additional art works are contributed by Shauna Marincik, who has documented the SkimChicks previously, and esoteric oil paintings by Sheila Jacobs, mother of accomplished female skimboarder Jen Jacobs. Every piece is inspired by the sport of inland and ocean skimboarding.

SkimChicks' goal in collaborating with Kelliher, Feil, Marincik and Jacobs is to provide a medium that can combine the physical prowess of the female athletes with the talents and vision of these accomplished artists. The result is a series of stunning images that places the female athletes in a compelling light -- all vying for recognition in their sport.

"This is an inspirational view into the world of women's skimboarding," says Richard Tibbetts, co-founder of SkimChicks. "These athletes are stepping out for what they really want -- their own professional tour."

The show is produced by 360 Shuvit Productions; the first installment of "Photographe Skimtastique" will be held on Friday, June 3, at the Angels on Abbot Kinney gallery, located at 1744 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice, Calif., 90291. Further inquiries from galleries or questions about the artwork should be directed to Richard Tibbetts at 323.544.5754.

Following the Venice Beach show, "Photographe Skimtastique" will be on display Saturday, June 11, at Seventh Sense Gallery, 2301 Artesia Blvd. Redondo Beach, Calif. 90278, and Monday, June 27, at Main Street Wine Cellar, 302 Main Street, in Seal Beach, Calif., 90740.

All times and additional venues will be posted on the SkimChicks website, www.skimchicks.com.

SkimChicks welcomes photographers at the event -- it will be a great opportunity for photographers to take advantage of unique locations, sets and personage. Photographers interested in shooting the athletes in costume and body art should contact Richard Bent of Richard Allen Productions at 949.273.1727.
