Eco-Shift Power Corp (ECOP) has patented its new Downlight Collar to improve light quality at lower costs, helping provide truly sustainable profits for its clients. The patent is registered as publication number CA 2775550 A1.

The new collar provides commercial/industrial energy users with an improvement over pre-existing technology, transforming their facilities by providing more and higher quality lighting at significantly lower costs. In fact, industry testing conducted by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) has shown the Downlight Collar can improve efficiency by as much as 15%, depending on ceiling heights.

With a foundation in new-era LED lighting and wireless and web-enabled technologies, Eco-Shift Power is transitioning clients' buildings from old, fixed technology to the new information age.

"The Downlight Collar means our clients can improve the quality of their lighting to better suit each deployment," says ECOP CEO Gib Wood. "It directs light in a more efficient pattern, and drives down costs. Think of it as more brightness for your buck."

Designed for use with high intensity discharge (HID) lighting systems, the Downlight Collar is a reflective collar that provides an efficient way to improve thermal isolation of the HID lamp from the ballast. Reduced heat transfer facilitates longer component life, primarily for the ballast and lamp.

Customers who have tried the HID solution are more than satisfied. Barry Colbran, Operations Manager at Mattel's Canadian Head Office and Distribution Center wanted to reduce energy consumption while improving working conditions through an improved lighting environment.

"As this was a costly project for Mattel we looked at several solutions from a number of vendors. Eco-Shift Power proved to be the most professional vendor and they provided the most cost effective solution," says Colbran. "They worked closely with us in getting the rebate application processed, developed an installation schedule and completed the work on schedule. I have received nothing but positive feedback on the project."

Economic design and component manufacturing, ease of installation, aesthetics and adjustability at site of installation are features that facilitate improved return on investment and contribute to decisions to install new or retrofit energy efficient lighting systems.
