Economic Action Plan Helps Company Stay a Cut Above the Competition

ST-HYACINTHE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 12, 2011) - Canada's Economic Action Plan is delivering real results for Canada's food producers and helping them deliver safe, high quality food to consumers at home and abroad. The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced an investment of $2,000,000 in support of Aliments Prince owned by Olymel S.E.C. This investment helped the company improve its processing lines, providing them with more opportunities to get their products to market.

"With Canada's Economic Action Plan, our government continues to help Quebec processors increase productivity and sales," says Minister Paradis. "This investment has allowed Aliments Prince to remain competitive in its current market by producing a higher quality product at a lower cost."

Olymel S.E.C., is a Canadian leader in the primary processing and distribution of pork and poultry meat products throughout Canada. The company purchased and installed three new bacon slicing and packing lines which increased production speed.

"The installation of new slicing equipment represents an important technological improvement which will contribute to higher competitiveness for Aliments Prince," said Olymel CEO Réjean Nadeau. "By putting this program at the disposition of agri-food processing companies, the Government of Canada recognizes the importance of this sector in the economic development of this country and its regions."

This repayable contribution is delivered by the Agricultural Flexibility Fund through the AgriProcessing Initiative, a five-year, up to $50-million initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of the food processing sector in Canada. It provides support to existing companies for projects that involve the adoption of innovative and new-to-company manufacturing technologies and processes that are essential to sustaining and improving the sector's position in today's global marketplace.
