Economic Action Plan Helps Ontario's Agri-Processing Sector

LINWOOD, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 11, 2011) - Canada's Economic Action Plan has provided real results for Canada's food producers and helped them deliver the highest quality food to consumers at home and abroad. MP Harold Albrecht (Kitchener-Conestoga), on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, congratulated Jones Feed Mills today on improving their business with the support of up to $633,160 from the federal government. This investment helped the company increase productivity and improve operational efficiency.

"Canada's Economic Action Plan is putting farmers first by helping them and the entire value- chain acquire new technology to better position them in today's global marketplace," said MP Albrecht. "This investment helped Jones Feed Mills install new equipment that helped the company introduce new products, access new markets, and increase sales volumes."

The investment was used to purchase new manufacturing equipment for creating pre-mixed supplements for livestock. Farmers buy the supplements and then mix it into their livestock feed.

"We are very grateful to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for this funding, which allowed us to expand our customer base by manufacturing and selling a wider variety and a greater volume of pre-mixed supplements," said Jeff Jones of Jones Feed Mills. "It also created jobs in the local community of Linwood."

This repayable contribution is delivered by the Agricultural Flexibility Fund through the AgriProcessing Initiative, a five-year, up to $50-million initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of the food processing sector in Canada. It provides support to existing companies for projects that involve the adoption of innovative and new-to-company manufacturing technologies and processes that are essential to sustaining and improving the sector's position in today's global marketplace.
