Economic Action Plan Helps Quebec's Agri-Processing Sector

SAINT-LIBOIRE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 13, 2011) - Canada's Economic Action Plan is delivering real results for Canada's food producers and helping them deliver the highest quality food to consumers at home and abroad. The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced an investment of $935,834 in support of Farinart Inc. This investment helped the company improve its processing lines, providing them with more opportunities to get their products to market.

"Our government is continuously working to provide farmers as well as the entire value-chain with new and innovative technologies," says Minister Paradis. "This investment helped Farinart Inc diversify their products and improve customer service."

Farinart Inc, an agri-processing company based in St. Liboire, Quebec, specializes in the production of a wide variety of flour, ground on stone mills, and grain blends certified organic or conventional, for bakeries and food processors. The company purchased and installed new grinders, sieves, silos, conveyors, and baggers.

"This financial investment has allowed us to acquire cutting edge technology while keeping us competitive in the global marketplace," said Farinart's President Sylvain Brasseur, who is thrilled with the Government of Canada's continued support.

This repayable contribution is delivered by the Agricultural Flexibility Fund through the AgriProcessing Initiative, a five-year, up to $50-million initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of the food processing sector in Canada. It provides support to existing companies for projects that involve the adoption of innovative and new-to-company manufacturing technologies and processes that are essential to sustaining and improving the sector's position in today's global marketplace.
