New Name for Alternative Energy Company Signifies a Strong and Sustainable Connection Between Energy and Life

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 1, 2012) - Ecotricity Guelph Inc. announces it has changed its name to Envida Community Energy Inc. (www.envida.ca), effective February 1, 2012.

Envida Community Energy Inc., 100 percent owned by Guelph Hydro Inc., is actively developing sustainable energy projects—solar, district energy, combined heat and power, and bioenergy—as a key implementer of the City of Guelph's internationally renowned Community Energy Initiative.

"The name Envida links energy (en) and life (vida) and speaks to our commitment to help move the communities we serve towards a sustainable energy future and a cleaner environment," says Barry Chuddy, CEO of Guelph Hydro Inc. and spokesperson for Envida Community Energy.

"The fresh-looking new brand, designed by eSolutionsGroup, connects solid reliability with the spirit of innovation evident in the many alternative energy projects we are developing in the community," says Chuddy.

Currently, Envida Community Energy's assets consist of the Eastview Landfill Gas Energy Plant and a rooftop solar facility located on the roof of Guelph Hydro's LEED®-certified building. Both plants feed electricity into the Ontario grid. The Eastview Plant, operational since 2005, generates 2,775 kW of electricity. The rooftop solar facility, operational since June 2011, generates 100 kW of electricity under a 20-year Feed-in Tariff contract with the Ontario Power Authority.

  • 17 rooftop solar and one biogas project under the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program
