Ed Sheeran Arrives in America With "The A Team"; British Sensation Unveils Eagerly Awaited US Debut EP, Highlighted by the History-Making Title Track; "The A Team" Already a Phenomenon in the UK, Earning Record-Breaking Sales and Popular Acclaim; "The A Team" EP Available at All DSPs on December 6th

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Nov 22, 2011) - Elektra Records has announced the upcoming release of "THE A TEAM," the hugely anticipated US debut from acclaimed British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. The EP -- which includes the blockbuster UK hit single, "The A Team" -- arrives at all DSPs on December 6th.

"THE A TEAM" will feature four extraordinary tracks, previously unreleased in the US. In addition, a special iTunes version of the EP will be available exclusively via the iTunes Store, augmented by the additional track, "Grade 8 (Live At The iTunes Festival London)."

"The A Team" proved an unqualified sensation upon its June release, debuting at #3 on the UK Singles Chart. The track spent 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 10, making history as 2011's highest charting, biggest selling debut single. "The A Team" was soon followed by Sheeran's full-length debut, "+," which entered the charts at #1 with the highest opening sales figures for a debut artist ever. What's more, the platinum-certified "+" entered the record books as the best selling debut album by a UK male artist in the last 10 years. "+" will be released in the U.S. via Elektra Records next year.

In addition to their popular success, Sheeran and "+" received widespread acclaim, including the prestigious "Breakthrough Artist" trophy at the Q Awards 2011. The Suffolk-based tunesmith received a total of 3 nominations, placing him alongside other triple-nominated superstars like Adele, Arctic Monkeys, and Jessie J.

Furthermore, the Independent hailed Sheeran as "a more naturalistic Bruno Mars... He's a bona fide hitmaker with a colossal YouTube following, working in the argot and style of his own generation." "Sheeran's strength is his melodic ability," noted the Guardian, "a way with a really strong, radio-friendly tune." "A genuine and unaffected release from one of this year's fastest rising stars," said Music Week of "+," while RWD raved, "Sheeran can write a song that reaches inside your chest, grabs your heart, and squeezes it so hard water pops out of your eye."

Sheeran -- who will hit these shores in early 2012 for an eagerly awaited series of live dates -- is a genuine phenomenon, masterfully blending soulful vocals with organic folk introspection and irresistible hip-hop hooks. Inspired by such diverse artists as James Morrison, Damien Rice, and Jay-Z, he moved to London at 16 and quickly made waves with his unique style and affecting songs. A prolific writer and performer, Sheeran played constantly -- including over 300 gigs in 2009 alone -- while also recording and self-releasing five independent EPs. He also became a YouTube favorite, with the loop-driven "You Need Me, I Don't Need You," drawing close to 5 million views and counting.

2011 has seen Sheeran bringing his astonishing drive and creativity to an ever-increasing audience. As energetic and engaging on stage as he is on record, he has spent recent months doing what he does best -- playing sold out shows all over the UK, including acclaimed festival appearances at such annual extravaganzas as Glastonbury, Lovebox, Bestival, Latitude, and Reading & Leeds Festival. Sheeran recently concluded his biggest UK tour to date, playing to packed houses in major venues throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
