Hotel Steps Forward to Benefit Local and Global Communities


ISELIN, NJ--(Marketwire - Apr 12, 2011) - The Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel in Iselin, NJ, as part of Hersha Hospitality Management's company initiative, has joined forces with Clean the World, a Florida-based not-for-profit organization aimed at reducing hygiene-related deaths through the distribution of recycled soap and bottled amenities.

This Edison, New Jersey hotel's participation in this unique program will benefit the local and global communities, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and distinguishes the hotel and its parent company, Hersha, from other hotel organizations through their continued environmental and community service. As a partner with Clean the World, the Renaissance Woodbridge hotel will assist in providing more than one million bars of recycled soap and 500,000 bottles of recycled shampoo, gels and lotions for distribution to children and families across the world in an effort to fight the spread of preventable diseases.

This move by Hersha makes it the largest hospitality management company to partner with Clean the World since its founding in 2009. Through this initiative the hotel's parent company, Hersha Hospitality Management, alone plans to annually provide approximately 9,000 children with soap and 4,500 children with bottled amenities. In addition to preventing countless deaths due to poor hygiene, the company's partnership with Clean the World will divert approximately 90 tons of waste from landfills annually.

Vargas noted that the partnership with Clean the World is a direct response to Hersha's EarthView program which was developed by the hospitality management firm to fully integrate environmental and community policies to make sustainable hospitality a reality. The EarthView program delivers environmental and conservation initiatives that positively impact a hotel's bottom line while simultaneously improving the well-being of guests, employees, communities and the planet.

Clean the World is committed to reducing the waste created by discarded soap and shampoo products and collects these items from hotels to be recycled and distributed to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished people worldwide, helping to prevent deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses.
