Editorial Feature: BPA/CCAB Signs 160 Quebec-Based Community Newspapers

SHELTON, CT--(Marketwire - Apr 10, 2012) - The Canadian Circulations Audit Board (CCAB), the Canadian division of global auditor BPA Worldwide, today announced it has signed on 160 community newspapers from Quebec, including Quebecor-owned Sun Media Corp. (59 titles), TC Media (83 titles), and 18 independents.

"The signing of our association newspaper members to a prestigious and professional organization such as CCAB is great news for advertisers who will have access to reliable circulation data," said Gilber Paquette, Executive Director and Marketing Director of Hebdos Quebec, an association that represents weekly community newspapers in Quebec. "This relationship with CCAB will benefit all industry players in the local weekly newspaper market in Quebec."

BPA President and CEO, Glenn Hansen, also saw the move as a positive one for weeklies in the region. "The migration of these newspapers to CCAB is a clear indication that our physical presence in Quebec is important to media owners," he said. "For more than a decade, CCAB has fostered strong relationships in the marketplace and provided unparalleled service to our members that made CCAB a natural choice for these media properties."

Publishers will file semi-annual claims for the six-month periods ending March and September. These figures will be published in CCAB's semi-annual TRAC (Trend Report About Circulation) reports, which will list all audited newspaper members and their top-line circulation data.

The number of newspapers counted as CCAB members or applicants now stands at 284.
