Editorial Feature: Building Design+Construction Announces '40 Under 40' Honorees for 2013

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL--(Marketwired - May 10, 2013) - What do a former elite gymnast, an extreme cake decorator and a Carnegie Hall violinist have in common? They are three members - with unusual avocations - of Building Design+Construction's '40 Under 40' Class of 2013.

Nominated by their firms and selected by BD+C's editors, these 40 young superstars, ranging in age from 28 to 39, represent the next generation of leadership in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. They were chosen based on career achievement, community and professional service, and charitable work.

"These honorees are some of the most exemplary, innovative professionals in their fields," says BD+C Editorial Director Robert Cassidy.

The gymnast? That's Emily Guglielmo, Senior Structural Engineer, Martin/Martin Inc., Larkspur, Calif., who does bungee jumping on the side. The cake decorator? Christian Giordano, Director of Architectural Design, HLW International, New York, whose creations include a 20-inch-tall "Elmo" cake. The violinist? Sarah Dirsa, Director, HOK IMPACT, St. Louis, who's helping her firm rebuild an orphanage in Haiti.

Now in its eighth year, the '40 Under 40' program is featured in Building Design+Construction's May issue. The honorees are invited to join their industry peers at Building Design+Construction's three-day career development event, the BD+C "U40 Leadership Summit," in San Francisco, October 9-11, 2013.
