Edmonton Dental Practice Will Offer Children Cash for Halloween Candy on Nov. 1

EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - October 20, 2014) - Spearmint Dental, a leader in providing Edmonton affordable dental implants, will open its doors Nov. 1 to give children a chance to cash in on their Halloween candy.

The Edmonton dental office will offer $1 for every pound of candy returned to the office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is an opportunity for Spearmint Dental to teach children and parents how tooth decay is the most common chronic disease children face.

"We hope to create awareness in children and reduce the negative impact that so much candy poses to their dental health," said Dr. Sean Bhasin, the owner and operator of Spearmint Dental.

Halloween can be a dangerous time for children's teeth, but it also can be a great opportunity for parents to teach their children about the importance of oral health. The staff of Spearmint Dental encourages parents to help their children sort through Halloween candy and decide what to keep and what is excess.

"We believe in rewarding children for their efforts by giving them something in return," said the Edmonton dentist. "We hope parents will embrace this and encourage their children to participate."

As part of the program, Spearmint Dental is partnering with local schools Johnny Bright Elementary & Jr. High and Monsignor Fee Otterson Elementary & Jr. High to spread the word about how Halloween can impact oral health. The dental practice is donating a minimum of $500 to each school and is offering children an LED toothbrush. One child from each school also will win an iPad.

"It's imperative that we reach out to the community in order to teach children about the importance of their oral health," Dr. Bhasin said. "By working with the schools to promote good oral hygiene, we can make the community we love and serve a healthier and happier place."

Spearmint Dental's quality staff offers a multitude of services and treatments, including preventative care, crowns, dental implants, All on Four dental implants, mini implants, bridges, dentures, wisdom teeth extractions, restorations, teeth whitening, root canals, sedation dentistry, endodontics, dental appliance sleep apnea treatment, cosmetic dentistry veneers and Invisalign.

Dr. Bhasin holds a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and a master's degree from the School of Dentistry at the University of Detroit Mercy. He has been practicing dentistry since 1998. Before he bought his first private practice in Michigan in 2002, Dr. Bhasin completed his residency in the United States Air Force, where he earned an honorable discharge.

Dr. Bhasin moved to Edmonton in 2009, and in 2011, he completed his 500 hours of continuing education and passed a rigorous examination to earn the honor of Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Bhasin is currently working to achieve a Mastership level from the Academy of General Dentistry, a prestigious recognition earned by fewer than 5 percent of dentists practicing in North America.
