Edmonton Economic Development Corporation: Edmonton Shines at Meetings Industry Day

Edmonton's 2011 National Meetings Industry Day one of Canada's top celebrations

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 11, 2011) - Greater Edmonton's meeting and event pro fessionals are proud of the contribution their industry makes to their local communities and to the economy at large. National Meetings Industry Day (NMID) provides industry experts with the opportunity to join and celebrate leadership, innovation, and collaboration.

"The momentum is building in Edmonton — it is a ve ry exciting time in the growing, meetings and events industry," says Milena Santoro, chair of the NMID 2011 planning committee. "It's been 15 years that we've been celebrating this event and each year gets bigger and bigger. The industry as a whole is coming together, working hard and collaborating for everyone's success. This is also a fundraising event to assist Edmonton's Food Bank and we are expecting to exceed 350 attendees."

For 15 years, cross-country celebrations have taken place in eight major cities, connecting meeting and event professionals while drawing their attention to the value of the industry, and celebrating its success. Canada's second largest celebration, hosted in Edmonton at the Shaw Conference Centre (SCC) on April 14, 2011, will focus on the importance of collaboration within the industry. Richard Andersen, president of Northlands will emphasize the importance of education, professional development, and positioning Edmonton as the destination of choice in the global market.

Beyond the celebration, event organizers are pleased to donate all proceeds from this year's event to support the food recovery program recently launched by Edmonton's Food Bank. "The industry's contribution to Edmonton's Food Bank shows our commitment to environmentally and socially responsible event planning," says Cliff Higuchi, assistant general manager of Shaw Conference Centre. "As a whole, industry professionals are dedicated to their communities and will continue to work to enhance the meeting and event planning process through fresh ideas."
