Edmonton- It's Time to Tell Our Story to the World

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 14, 2009) - Edmontonians are being asked to share their stories with the world, in a campaign to promote the experiences of our city to attract visitors and newcomers.

"Research has shown us that the Edmonton experience IS what people look for and value in a place to live or visit," said Mary Pat Barry, Branch Manager of Corporate Communications for the City of Edmonton. "Edmontonians know it, now we want to tell the world."

At, Edmontonians are invited to share their stories in video, audio, and written format. The City will then share those stories with the world through social media, online advertising and traditional media.

"I'm very supportive of this initiative. I believe it captures the essence and the spirit of Edmonton better than any single slogan or traditional PR campaign ever could," said Mayor Mandel. "I challenge every Edmontonian to get involved."

"We want to know about the particular moment or event that made it all come together for someone in terms of what is special about Edmonton for them," added Barry. "It's more than identifying what people like about Edmonton. It's finding a personal story that illustrates what makes our city a great place to live. It is the story of what our city has made possible from the perspective of the people who live here."

The City and Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) partnered on the campaign, which will be customized to meet the needs of local organizations for attraction, recruitment and retention.

"When businesses approach us, we will source stories tailored to their specific requirements, and market those stories where the people they want to reach will see them," said Ken Fiske with EEDC. "We will also highlight the experiences of visitors to attract tourists."

The campaign will also include Edmonton 2030, a video and microsite exploring Edmonton's potential with youth and community leaders. Edmonton 2030 will roll out to schools in the Edmonton region over the coming months.
