Edmonton's Food Bank, Edmonton Heritage Festival Association and Servus Credit Union Announce "Servus Heritage Festival Food Drive"

EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - July 14, 2016) - Edmonton's Food Bank, the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association, and Servus Credit Union came together today to launch the Servus Heritage Festival Food Drive.

The food drive will kick off with the distribution of approximately 150,000 paper food collection bags provided by Servus Credit Union, delivered to Edmonton households by the Edmonton Journal in their July 21, 2016 edition. The collection bags will also be available in Edmonton area Servus Credit Union branches until the festival kicks off July 30.

Collection centres will be set up at all entrances to the Servus Heritage Festival, and Edmontonians attending the festival are encouraged to bring non-perishable food, in our bag or their own, to the festival collection points. Festival attendees will also be able to donate unused food tickets to Edmonton's Food Bank at the Servus Heritage Festival. The price paid for the tickets donated will be donated to the Food Bank.

"Edmonton's Food Bank has been experiencing a surge in the number of people needing its help this year," said Marjorie Bencz, Executive Director of Edmonton's Food Bank. "The Servus Heritage Festival is our largest single collection point for the year, so we are very happy about this new partnership that will ensure that continues."

Jim Gibbon, Executive Director of the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association, added that, "The Servus Heritage Festival is about more than food and culture, it is about community, which is why we are so pleased we can be a part of the Servus Heritage Festival Food Drive, and enable so many Edmontonians to come together to support our community."

Servus Credit Union has been a concerned community citizen for 77 years, and is very proud of its relationship with the Alberta Heritage Festival Association and Edmonton's Food Bank. Servus is especially proud to be able to bring together these partners and cement this crucial food drive as part of the Servus Heritage Festival. "Servus has donated over $85,000 to Alberta food banks in the past two years, but our support goes beyond that," said Gail Stepanik-Keber, Chief Brand & Corporate Social Responsibility Officer for Servus Credit Union. "Our employees and members support the food bank directly with events like our spring food drive in Fort McMurray and now the Servus Heritage Festival Food Drive. As a member owned credit union, helping in our community is in our DNA, and we know there is additional strain on Edmonton's Food Bank right now so we are particularly pleased we can provide this support on behalf of our members."
