EDUCATA Releases Two Diabetes Courses

Taught by Leading Expert, Dr. J. David Taylor, the Interactive Online Classes Explore the Disease and Reveal the Significant Role of Physical Therapy in Its Prevention and Management

CALABASAS, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 24, 2012) - The physical therapist is fast becoming vitally important to any team involved in treating Diabetes. With the release of "Physical Therapy for Children with Type 1 Diabetes," and "Adults with Type 2 Diabetes," EDUCATA expands its online continuing education offerings and hopes to prepare PTs to respond to this epidemic threat.

Nearly 26 million children and adults in the US have diabetes(1) and the overall number of cases has doubled from 1990 to 2005(2), facts that peg the disease as a global crises affecting both individuals and society. Within this context, the physical therapist plays a significant role in both prevention and treatment, given the close relationship of diabetes to physical activity.

As the epidemic unfolds, the PT will increasingly be called to be part of the team that helps meet the challenge, a reality that has prompted EDUCATA to work with J. David Taylor, PT, Ph.D., CSCS to develop this new course offerings.

In a series of 4 lectures divided among 2 courses -- one with a pediatric focus and one covering adult onset -- Dr. Taylor delves deep into the subject to provide a clear understanding of the disease as well as discuss treatment options and ways to measure outcomes.

Uniquely qualified by his extensive experience as clinician and researcher in this field, Dr. Taylor is also director of the Diabetes and Exercise Research lab at the University of Central Arkansas.

Both courses are available online and have been approved for physical therapy continuing education credits in most states.
