Education Resource Center Opens in Lawrence

Centerpiece Is ETS Employee-Funded State-of-the-Art Computer Center

PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire - May 13, 2011) - A new Education Resource Center containing a state-of-the-art computer lab officially opened today in Lawrence Township. Designed for children and adults who have limited or no access to technology, the project was funded entirely with more than $100,000 in contributions from employees of Educational Testing Service (ETS).

The Education Resource Center is located inside the Lawrence Community Center on Eggerts Crossing Road. The Center is managed by HomeFront, a nonprofit agency providing a comprehensive network of services to families in Mercer County. The Center serves Lawrence Township residents and is a point of delivery for Homefront's social services.

The computer lab and adjoining children's classroom on the lower level of the building complete the first two phases of the project. It was built using funds contributed by ETS employees during the company's 2009 employee giving campaign and with volunteer help from ETS's Information Technology (IT), Facilities, Supplier Management, Marketing & Public Affairs and General Counsel's Office.

"It's going to be a great space. It's exactly what HomeFront needs and what the community has requested," says Yvette Donado, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. "With the Resource Center open, children and adults who have limited or no access to technology will have a new world of opportunities open to them."

The Center features 21 computers, a pull-down projector screen, a separate room for servers, a proctor station, and a secure exterior entrance. The new state-of-the-art computer desks convert to flat tables at the touch of a button; the computer disappears under the desktop which provides security and additional work space.

Phase three of the project involves converting a meeting room and offices on the first floor to a multi-purpose space and outfitting the new space with a wide-screen projector, portable projector screen, projector cart, DVD player, laptop, and new tables and stacking chairs.

The ETS Employees' Community Action Fund was created in 2008 to bring ETS staff together to make a significant investment in the community. The ETS Fund receives donations from employees during the annual employee giving campaign and the donations are applied to projects that give staff the opportunity to put their time and talent toward a significant goal.

In the first year of the Fund, employees in New Jersey donated more than $100,000 to build the ETS-Habitat for Humanity House in Trenton, N.J. The house was completed in April.
