Polarex® uses advanced micro- and nano-fiber technology to create a single-stage, high-efficiency, structured contactor/separator. The system has a much smaller footprint and minimized foundation, and does not require the large recirculating loops needed by larger water wash systems, creating a more robust, easily operated system.

The patented Polarex® technology may be applied to the extraction of soluble components from either liquid or gas process streams. It has application to both contaminant removal (e.g. caustic, dissolved acids, salts, acid gases or reaction by-products), as well as recovery of valuable products or solvents (e.g. recover soluble amines from treated LPG or recovery of LPG from high-BTU natural gas streams).

While Polarex® can benefit a range of industrial sectors, as shale gas production continues to change the energy landscape, Polarex® separation technology has proved very beneficial in natural gas fractionation.

In the past five years, Pentair has installed most of the front-end technology at fractionation plants in Mont Belvieu, Texas, one of the nation's key hubs for natural gas processing and fractionation. Polarex® provides high-efficiency, consistent CO2 removal from natural gas liquids (NGLs) prior to fractionation. Polarex® has proved particularly beneficial in the replacement of conventional amine contactors, providing results of up to 86% operational time above nameplate capacity and 19% above designed capacity.
