Egenera Announces PAN Manager Software for Fujitsu PRIMERGY(R) BX900 Blade Servers

Egenera Advances Converged Infrastructure Strategy by Porting Unified Computing Technology to Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX900 Blade Servers

MARLBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - October 7, 2010) -  Egenera Inc. announced today an agreement where its converged infrastructure PAN Manager Software® will be ported onto Fujitsu PRIMERGY® BX900 blade server hardware. Built on the future-proof design and dynamic capabilities of the PRIMERGY BX900, PAN Manager software delivers a highly available and flexible computing platform that eliminates the need to dedicate servers to applications. The announcement also underscores Egenera's extension of its multi-platform converged infrastructure strategy. With Fujitsu servers, customers can now measurably simplify operations by creating a single resource pool and management tool for both physical and virtual servers, resulting in rapid response to organizational changes and heightened business agility.

Ideal usage scenarios are customers with mixed physical/virtual server environments, who are seeking to simplify physical infrastructure and operations, drive costs down, and who need to provide business-critical high availability (HA) and/or disaster recovery (DR).

Egenera PAN Manager for Fujitsu hardware is expected to be generally available Mid Q4 2010 in the USA, EMEA and parts of APAC directly from Egenera, as well as through its network of channel partners. Egenera is also currently an OEM of Fujitsu's PRIMERGY BladeFrame product in EMEA.

"Fujitsu is glad that Egenera has chosen our flagship, the PRIMERGY BX900 blade server, to enhance their PAN Manager based solution for scalable datacenter infrastructures," said Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President Datacenter Systems Product Division, Fujitsu Technology Solutions. "With the availability of dual- and quad-socket blades, in combination with high capacities of configurable memory and I/O enhancements by providing 10 Gbit Ethernet on board, the PRIMERGY BX900 offers end-to-end reliable, balanced performance, enabling optimal virtual machine deployment without bottlenecks."

"This new agreement broadens a longstanding relationship we have with our great partner, Fujitsu. We expect PAN Manager software running on PRIMERGY BX900 blades will compete favorably and formidably against products such as Cisco UCS in production data center environments," said Pete Manca, Egenera President & CEO. "This announcement is also an important milestone making Egenera the only vendor today providing an truly open, cross-platform converged infrastructure / unified computing solution. We're revolutionizing how infrastructure management and high availability can be simplified and made far more cost-effective."

PAN Manager Software combines the simplification benefits of unified computing with integrated high availability and disaster recovery services for physical and virtual servers. The software uses standard servers and Ethernet and creates server, I/O, networking and storage pools that can be easily re-allocated. The result is a business-critical infrastructure with massive operational efficiencies. PAN Manager is deployed at over 1,600 sites globally. The software currently supports hardware from Egenera, Dell and Fujitsu, and storage from 3Par, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, HDS, HP, IBM, NetApp and others.
