SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 13, 2011) - eHarmony, the online service that uses relationship science to match singles seeking long-term relationships, has selected SeaMicro's SM10000™ servers to dramatically reduce total cost of ownership.
eHarmony selected SeaMicro -- the pioneer in low-power server technology -- after extensive testing with positive results. Previously, eHarmony used cloud services to run its Apache Hadoop application. After eHarmony brought the Hadoop cluster in-house by purchasing SeaMicro systems, they experienced a massive reduction in operational cost.
Millions of people use eHarmony's singles matching service, which matches people based on 29 Dimensions® of Compatibility, to find long-term relationships. The system is enormously successful, with an average of 542 eHarmony members marrying daily in the United States.
However, the complex datasets are very compute intensive. Each day, eHarmony would spend a few hours in the cloud running Apache Hadoop, culling the information provided by its millions of members and using its complex algorithms to find possible matches.
