Eileen Huntington, Cofounder of Huntington Learning Center, to Serve on Panel for the Thypin Oltchick Institute for Women's Entrepreneurship

Following on Its Celebration of National Small Business Week, Huntington Cofounder Offers Advice to Women Franchisees

ORADELL, NJ--(Marketwire - May 31, 2011) - On June 13, 2011, Eileen Huntington will serve on a panel for a seminar hosted by the Thypin Oltchick Institute for Women's Entrepreneurship in New York City. The seminar, entitled, "Franchising: In Business for Yourself, Not By Yourself," is free to the public and will be held 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at 130 E. 50th Street in the 7th floor conference center.

Alongside four other franchise company founders, Mrs. Huntington will discuss the fundamentals of owning a franchise business. "I enjoy speaking to different groups about building, growing and running a successful business," said Mrs. Huntington. "Ray and I understand the fear and challenges that small businesspeople face and it makes us very proud to offer the Huntington business concept to franchisees. It is also my honor to be a part of this event so soon after National Small Business Week."

Huntington opened its first learning center in 1977 in Oradell, New Jersey. Eileen Huntington was a high school teacher and Raymond Huntington was a business analyst for AT&T when the couple decided to open a learning center that offered individualized, supplemental instruction to students similar to those Eileen had noticed in her school -- students who lacked basic reading and study skills, and were therefore falling behind their peers in the classroom. Huntington began franchising the concept in 1985. Today, the privately held company has more than 300 centers nationwide and also works with school districts to improve their academic performance as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.

"When we founded Huntington, we were fueled by a passion to help young learners reach their full potential," said Mrs. Huntington. "Two weeks ago, we celebrated National Small Business Week to recognize the many entrepreneurial men and women in this country, the millions of small businesses that support our nation's economy, and the organizations and businesses that help small businesses thrive. Whether I am speaking to our franchise operators or on a panel, I share the same lessons and advice about hard work and striving each day to make a positive difference one student, one family, one community at a time. I look forward to speaking to these aspiring women entrepreneurs about the 'small-business mentality' that continues to guide Huntington today."
