After receiving her Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, McCarty built her credibility as a newscaster and was hired by CBS 2 and KCAL 9 after they noticed the beauty on KTNV in Las Vegas.
As a reporter, she has had the opportunity to cover everything from the first jailhouse murder confession, hidden camera investigations on human trafficking and stories of American war heroes. McCarty has made television magic by capitalizing on her ability to deliver the news with ease and build rapport with her interviewees without losing objectivity.
Although she has also interviewed some of the hottest A-list celebrities, she is most inspired by the everyday stories of families overcoming obstacles. In the end, this is what motivates her to continue doing what she loves: reporting.
Her platform on KCAL has also allowed McCarty to dabble in the field of acting. She has appeared on NBC's Chuck, HBO's hit series Big Love, FOX's Lie to Me, and ABC Family's Middleman.
It is clear that Melissa has had much success in front of the camera, but after a decade of telling other people's stories, McCarty is now ready to tell her own. She has two non-fiction books near completion. One is for today's workingwoman and is a dark comedy about finding balance between work and play, filled with inspiring antidotes. The other is a tale of two siblings with diverging paths as one battles mental illness and alcoholism and the other tries to help without being trapped in his liquid world of violence and delusions.
McCarty has worked in the past for KJCT, NBC-KAM, ABC-KTNV, but she is now seen five days a week on Southern California's number one rated 10:00pm newscast, KCAL 9 as well as 11:00pm on CBS 2.
