EJL Wireless Research Forecasts 2009 Latin America Wireless Cap Ex Spending to Decline by 23.8% to $12 Billion

Brazil Represents 41.5% of Overall Regional Wireless Cap Ex

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - December 17, 2009) - Latin America wireless capital expenditure spending is forecasted to decrease 23.8% in 2009 after growing 46.7% in 2008, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled "Latin America Cap Ex Analysis 2008-2011."

"The spending levels for wireless capital expenditures vary drastically between Brazil, Mexico, Central America, the Southern Cone and Andean regions. We forecast that declines in cap ex spending in both Brazil and Mexico will significantly impact overall regional spending on wireless equipment for the next several years, even as mobile operators launch and upgrade HSPA networks," says founder and President, Earl Lum.

"Due to the dominance of America Movil and Telefonica Moviles across the region in cap ex spending (representing over 50% combined), we believe that these two operators will continue to impact the direction and trends in Latin America," says Lum. GSM/W-CDMA remains the region's dominant technology but iDEN cap ex spending is expected to surpass CDMA by 2010.

The report includes detailed analysis for 71 mobile operators in Latin America across 21 countries including: America Movil, Digicel, Entel PCS, ICE, Iusacell, Nextel, Oi, Orange Caraibe, Telecom Personal, Telefonica Moviles, Tigo, TIM and Vivo. This report does not include the Caribbean region. The report is currently available for purchase and information can be downloaded at
