EKCPR Announces Representation of Leading Neurosurgeon and Health Care Reform Expert Dr. Kris Smith

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 4, 2014) - EKCPR welcomes highly-accredited neurosurgeon and health care reform expert Dr. Kris Smith, author of It's Not Brain Surgery: A Neurosurgeon's Prescription for Health Care Reform and one of the leading members of Arizona's prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute. As a specialist in brain tumors and surgical treatment of epilepsy, he combines a deep well of medical knowledge with advanced technological tools such as computer image guidance, brain mapping and Gamma Knife radiosurgery to minimize patient discomfort and lower the risk of complications.

In his book, Dr. Smith draws on years of personal experience in the field with his patients and applies laser-like focus to unraveling the complexities of America's health care system, confronting how the controversial issue can be solved while avoiding increased national debt.

"As a practicing neurosurgeon, I have been interested in not only the practice and science of medicine, but also in the delivery and access to care for my patients," Dr. Smith writes. "I believe that our current system, or really lack thereof, is badly broken... the question is not whether reform is needed. It is, how can the system be made to function better... and doing so without bankrupting the nation?"

Dr. Smith gained widespread recognition in late 2012 when he successfully led a team in "disconnecting" the two sides of a young woman's brain to eliminate her daily epileptic seizures. The risky, 9-hour ordeal did not produce any anticipated physical or intellectual deficits and was hailed by the Barrow Institute as a miraculous recovery. The video recording of this surgery is now part of the hospital's 50th anniversary celebration and remains one of their most momentous accomplishments.

Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Brigham Young University and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He is presently the Director of the Gamma Knife Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ.

It's Not Brain Surgery: A Neurosurgeon's Prescription for Health Care Reform is published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, LLC, and available at Amazon.
