Elastic Path Launches Ecommerce on the Google Cloud

Synergies Between Search Engine Leader and Ecommerce Leader Grow

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 9, 2011) - Elastic Path Software, provider of a flexible enterprise ecommerce platform and strategic ecommerce consulting services, announced that a version of its ecommerce platform is now running on Google App Engine - the search engine leader's platform for developing and hosting web apps on the same systems that power many Google applications.

Since 2008 the Java-based Elastic Path platform has been the ecommerce backbone of a couple of Google's online stores that are currently being migrated to run on App Engine. Like many complex web applications, these stores used to run in a multi-server environment (Apache and Tomcat with a MySQL database) hosted in a colocation center. The public storefronts and internal commerce manager have already been migrated to App Engine, and the database and remaining parts of the Elastic Path platform will be fully implemented on the App Engine cloud soon.

"Elastic Path is a true enterprise class application powering many online stores globally," said a Google spokesperson. "Having such a robust ecommerce application running on App Engine shows the flexibility, scalability, and speed of App Engine. App Engine is a game changer because it allows companies to focus on application development without all of the traditional infrastructure concerns."

Elastic Path will be on hand at the 2011 Google I/O Show to showcase their innovative offerings for Google's App Engine. Google I/O brings together thousands of developers for two days of deep technical content at Google's largest developer event of the year. Focused on building the next generation of web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies, Google I/O will take place on May 10 and 11 at Moscone West in San Francisco. Developers who aren't able to attend the event in person can join viewing parties around the world through I/O Extended, or can watch from home through I/O Live.

"As the relationship between Google and Elastic Path continues to grow, so does our excitement," added Harry Chemko, CEO and founder of Elastic Path Software. "The synergy of Elastic Path's platform now running on Google App Engine enables us to further deliver our vision of elastic commerce-ecommerce that is frictionless, social, and everywhere."
