Elections Canada/Election Day: You Can Still Register to Vote

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 16, 2008) - The majority of electors in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River (Saskatchewan), Toronto Centre (Ontario), Vancouver Quadra (British Columbia) and Willowdale (Ontario) are on the lists of electors and ready to vote in the Monday, March 17, 2008, by-elections. Most electors were already on the preliminary lists that were produced immediately after the launch of the by-elections. Many electors who were not registered at their correct addresses have since registered or had the necessary corrections made during the revision period.

An elector who is still not on the list will be able to register on election day at the assigned polling station for his or her residence, just before voting. The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, has instructed the returning officers for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra and Willowdale to make sure they have adequate resources to meet the demands for registration on election day.

To find out where to vote or how to register, an elector can visit www.elections.ca or call the Voter Information Service at 1-800-463-6868. The appropriate polling station can usually be located by providing the elector's postal code.

Federal by-elections will be held in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra and Willowdale on Monday, March 17, 2008.

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
