Elections Canada/Media Advisory: Registered Party Financial Transactions Returns

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 29, 2005) - On Monday, July 4, and Tuesday, July 5, 2005, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Elections Canada will make registered party financial transactions returns for 2004 available for consultation by the media.

The returns, which must be submitted by June 30, 2005, will include information on the contributions and expenditures of registered parties for the calendar year from January 1 to December 31, 2004, including the period of the 2004 general election.

They must include the name, address and class of each donor who made a contribution of over $200. Each return must also include a statement of assets and liabilities, and a statement of revenues and expenses. An auditor's report must accompany the return for each registered party.

These are the first fiscal returns to be prepared in accordance with Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act and the Income Tax Act (political financing), which came into force on January 1, 2004.
