Elections Canada Releases List of Confirmed Candidates for November 27, 2006, Federal By-Elections

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 8, 2006) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, today released the list of confirmed candidates nominated for upcoming federal by-elections in Repentigny (Quebec) and London North Centre (Ontario).

A total of 14 candidates have been confirmed in the two electoral districts. Seven of the 15 registered political parties are represented by candidates and three candidates are running as independents.

The following candidates, with party affiliations as shown, are running in the federal by-elections:

Bourgon, Stephane (Conservative Party of Canada)

Gravel, Raymond (Bloc Quebecois)

Leduc, Jocelyne (Independent)

Turenne, Christian (Liberal Party of Canada)

London North Centre

Arlow, Will (Canadian Action Party)

Ede, Robert (Independent)

Haskett, Dianne (Conservative Party of Canada)

Hunter, Steve (Progressive Canadian Party)

May, Elizabeth (Green Party of Canada)

Pearson, Glen (Liberal Party of Canada)

Walker, Megan (New Democratic Party)

The list of confirmed candidates is distributed to Canadian high commissions, embassies and consulates for electors abroad voting by special mail-in ballot. The list can be consulted at www.elections.ca or obtained by calling 1-800-463-6868, toll-free in Canada and the United States, 001-800-514-6868, toll-free in Mexico, or 613-993-2975 from anywhere in the world.

By-elections will be held in Repentigny and London North Centre on Monday, November 27, 2006.
