Elections Canada Releases Spending Limit for Candidates

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 17, 2007) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, today released the limit on election expenses for candidates in the by-election of Monday, September 17, 2007, in the electoral district of Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec).

The limit is based on the number of names on the preliminary lists of electors, and calculated using a formula set out in the Canada Elections Act, which makes adjustments for sparsely populated ridings and those with lower-than-average populations.

The Act allows adjustments to this limit based on the revised lists of electors. The final election expenses limit for candidates will be released on or before Monday, September 10, 2007.

A by-election will be held in Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean on Monday, September 17, 2007.


Changes have been made to the Canada Elections Act.
