Electrical Safety Authority Issues Ontario Electrical Safety Code (2009/24th Edition)

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 20, 2009) - Ontario's Electrical Safety Authority will be issuing the 24th Edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (2009/24th Edition) on May 1, 2009 following Government of Ontario approval in early 2009.

The 24th Edition contains 255 changes associated with the Ontario amendments and the 2009 Canadian Electrical Code. Ted Olechna, Provincial Code Engineer, Electrical Safety Authority says "The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (2009/24th Edition) reflects changes to industry standards that will positively impact public electrical safety and electrical installations in the Province of Ontario."

The Electrical Safety Authority is offering training to provide the electrical industry with an overview of "key changes" included in the 24th Edition, and to provide clarification on compliance requirements that will affect their business.

Electrical installations must meet Ontario Electrical Safety Code rules that are in effect at the time the application for inspection was filed or the plans were submitted to ESA for review. As a result, changes associated with the 24th Edition will apply to any applications for inspection filed starting May 1st, 2009, or for any electrical installation. Applications or plans submitted prior to May 1st, 2009 do not need to comply with the 24th Edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
