Electronic Gadgets Revealed as Homeowners Most Treasured Possessions

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 7, 2010) - Over a third of UK homeowners value electronic equipment more than any of their other possessions, according to a poll by Swinton.

Items such as laptops, iPods and mobile phones are deemed more precious than photos and family heirlooms.

Swinton, the UK's leading retailer of home insurance polled 1,200 online customers and found that 35% put electronic gadgets at the top of the list as the most treasured possessions in the home.

Of those polled 28% put furniture next on the list of most treasured possessions, while 22% ranked jewellery in third place.

The complete list of most treasured possessions is as follows:

1. Gadgets 35%

2. Furniture 28%

3. Jewellery 22%

4. Clothing/shoes/handbags 8%

5. Soft furnishings 4%

6. Photos 2%

7. Garden items 1%

Steve Chelton, insurance development manager for Swinton, said, "Homes are full of treasured possessions so it is vital that homeowners have the correct insurance designed to cover them all. Many homeowners do not realise that electrical items such as Hi-fis TVs and computers are covered by standard contents insurance. Homeowners could face a hefty bill if they have to repair or replace items that are not covered by their contents insurance."
