Electronic Recycling Association: Press Release

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - April 12, 2007) - Donating and recycling computers in Edmonton, Canada helps elderly homes, daycare homes and community organizations. April 11, 2007

Thanks to EPCOR, and their generous donation of Pentium 4 computers, and brand new 120GB hard drives, the ERA was able to provide an elderly home, a disability association, and a community center with computers to use.

In the past few years, the Electronic Recycling Association of Alberta has been collecting computers in the Edmonton area for donation to charities and non profit groups. Many computers collected have been given back to the community, through various programs. Some of those programs include the following.

Volunteer training programs, individuals can spend time at the ERA, testing computers, monitors, learning about computers and how they work, as well as helping the ERA refurbish systems to give to other charitable and non profit organizations. Volunteers can earn a computer, laptop, server and all kinds of computer equipment for their time.

Charity donation programs, charities all over Edmonton, Alberta and Canada wide, can send requests to the ERA for computers. The ERA will feature those charities on their website, until their needs have been fulfilled, and computers have been installed at their locations.

In the past the ERA worked with organizations such as The Red Cross, for which it successfully collected laptops, telephones, and computers for the Red Cross, for them to use in emergency response situations, where they require some laptops and telephones to use in the field.

The ERA works with the Calgary Drop in Center to which it donates large amounts of computers, for their IT training program. Individuals can take courses, learn on recycled computers, and also earn a computer for their first home, or apartment they get after leaving the Drop in Center.

Any Edmonton based non profit organizations can contact the ERA, to be featured on their website, and receive computers to use in their libraries, community centers, or activity places.

ERA offers a data security program to corporations and government departments, where you can rest assured that your confidential information is safe. ERA staff will come to your office, and remove the data in front of your staff per request. ERA can also bring a special device to your office, with which they Shred and forever eliminate any chance your data can fall into your competitors' hands.

If your organization has computers to donate or recycle, the ERA offers a collection service, and can dispatch trucks to any location in Edmonton, or across Alberta, and Canada.
