Electronique S.E.M. Inc. Receives Funding From Government of Canada to Raise Productivity

LÉVIS, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 29, 2011) - Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière–Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, today announced, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transports, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, that the firm Électronique S.E.M. will receive $100,000 in repayable funding to acquire equipment that will help improve productivity.

"The productivity and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises are the key to a healthy economy. That is why the Government of Canada is proud to support Électronique S.E.M., in Lévis, and its parent company, Axion Technologies in La Pocatière, who are taking steps to make gains in these areas," said MP Gourde.

Électronique S.E.M. manufactures electronic boards exclusively for Axion which assembles them. These boards are integrated into audio and video systems designed and marketed by Axion and geared to enterprises in the mass transit sector. Électronique S.E.M. has a wide range of clients including Bombardier, Siemens, and Novabus.

To raise its productivity, Électronique S.E.M. has acquired specialized equipment and will reconfigure its plant. The company's project is part of a broader approach aimed at supporting the development of Axion activities abroad, notably in the United States and Europe where it has operations.

The funding announced today has been awarded through the Business and Regional Growth program. In supporting Électronique S.E.M., Canada Economic Development is contributing to the consolidation and growth of the applied technology sector, a priority area for the Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches Business Office.
