The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation Celebrates National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week

MOBILE, AL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 13, 2006 -- The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) is celebrating National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week. Safety Week is a promotion of public safety awareness for elevators, escalators and moving walks. The celebration began thirteen years ago and has continued annually the second full week of November. This year, Safety Week is November 12 through 18.

It is the mission of the EESF to educate the public on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators and moving walkways through informational programs. One of the programs used to educate the public is National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week.

Safety Week provides a focal point for the industry, on a local and national level, to join together to spread the word about public safety in the elevator industry. EESF has invited elevator/escalator companies, transit authorities and labor organizations to make this special week a huge success in cities throughout North America. These volunteer organizations have staged classroom presentations and information booths across the country.

This year the Foundation has dedicated special focus to the adult safety program, A Safe Ride®. The EESF has set a goal to educate 40,000 seniors with the program through Safety Week and other promotional initiatives.
