Elk Valley Coal Funds Portable Ultrasound Machine for Crowsnest Pass Hospital

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 20, 2008) - Elk Valley Coal Corporation today announced that it has donated $50,000 to the Chinook Health Region for the purchase of a portable ultrasound machine for the Crowsnest Pass hospital. The new equipment will allow local emergency room evaluation of patients with abdominal or other trauma and assist with the placing of intravenous lines. Patients in the Crowsnest Pass who currently require detailed scan assessment procedures must travel 140 kilometres to Lethbridge, Alberta.

Dr. Garbutt, MD in the Crowsnest Pass indicated that the funds will also provide ultrasound training for at least one area doctor. He also stated that the machine can readily be transported for emergency use in the Elk Valley and Pincher Creek.

"I am very excited about the prospect of having this machine in our hospital," said Dr. Garbutt. "We are grateful to Elk Valley Coal for their generosity and believe this new equipment will benefit patients for years to come."

"Elk Valley Coal places high value on the safety and well-being of our employees and their families and we are pleased to support the communities where our employees live and work," said Doug Stokes, Vice President of Operations and a resident of the Crowsnest Pass.
