Elsevier to Publish New Edition of International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences

26-Volume Edition Features More Than 3,900 Chapters Providing Broad, Deep Interdisciplinary Knowledge

WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwired - March 11, 2015) - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the forthcoming publication of the second edition of the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences edited by James Wright, PhD. More than 3900 chapters comprising all areas of the social and behavioral sciences offer thorough explanations of the interactions among the disciplines covered. The encyclopedia will publish later this month.

The long-awaited new edition provides this foundational, interdisciplinary knowledge through discussions on history, current trends and future directions for each of the subjects. Both its format and integrated chapters encourage discovery, and map contexts and connections within the social and behavioral sciences. More than 80 percent of the chapters are new or updated since the original text published in 2001. A reviewer for Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books (2004, Vol. 49, No. 6) referred to the first edition as "monumental in scope…and…surely one of the great wonders of the scientific world."

The 26 volumes in the new edition include chapters on rapidly evolving subjects, such as pyschology, neurology, evolution, artificial intelligence and human/computer interaction. The content is relevant for university and research libraries worldwide, especially those with collections in the social sciences. A full list of subjects is available here.

The International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences will be on display at the upcoming ACRL 2015 conference in Portland, OR, March 25-28. At the Elsevier booth #351, librarians can enter to win a copy of the encyclopedia for their library.

The encyclopedia is available on the Elsevier Store and on ScienceDirect, Elsevier's full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from over 2,200 peer-reviewed journals and more than 33,000 book titles.
